EMERY LOW BARRIER EMERGENCY SHELTER
At the Emery Emergency Shelter, transformation is possible. This building provides men experiencing homelessness with a safe and warm environment. As you enter the building, the main floor is bustling with activity as dedicated staff members work tirelessly to ensure that everyone receives the support they deserve.
The intake process begins promptly at 6:00 pm, marking the start of a new chapter for many individuals. During this time, men are heard, assessed, and offered a lifeline of support.
The facility has 130 beds, and its doors are open 24/7, providing a haven for individuals who have been lost and wandering the streets in search of shelter. Men can rest and recharge in a safe environment. Amidst the chaos and uncertainty of life, these beds offer a small but significant comfort, providing a glimmer of hope and a much-needed respite from the harsh realities of life on the street.
In addition to offering shelter, the Coalition provides case management services to assist people in navigating the network of resources and aid programs. The goal of the Coalition is to empower individuals by equipping them with the necessary tools and support to break out of the cycle of homelessness.
EMERY HYPOTHERMIA CENTER
The Emery Hypothermia Center is situated on the lower level of the building and offers shelter to men. The center has 40 beds and offers dinner and breakfast from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am between November 2023 and March 2024. A hypothermia center is a short-term emergency accommodation that operates when temperatures or a combination of precipitation, wind chill, wind, and temperature become dangerously inclement. Their purpose is vital to preventing death and injury from exposure to the elements.
If you come across someone who needs shelter or a welfare check, you can dial the DC Shelter Hotline at (202) 399-7093. Alternatively, you can call 311. However, if there is an immediate safety risk, please call 911. When you make the call, provide the time, the address or location of the sighting, and a description of the person's appearance.
