Gut Feelings: A Conversation with Chef Katie on the Vital Role the Gut Biome Plays in Wellness, its Crucial Relationship to Mental Health and Recovery
Presented by: Katie Gilligan
Wednesday, May 1, 2024 9:00am-11:00am PST
The Guidance Center
1301 Pine Avenue Long Beach, CA 90813
Training Room, 2nd Floor
Content
What exactly is the gut biome, and why do food, nutrition, bacteria, mindful eating, a colorful plate, or the large and small intestines have anything to do with mental health or behavioral treatment? If it’s so vital, then why don’t we know much about it or consider it as part of holistic care on a daily basis? Where do we begin to have a digestible (pun intended) dialogue with kids and families (especially those in underserved communities or food-sensitive demographics)? Enjoy a few hours with Chef Katie for a smörgåsbord of practicalities about the crucial importance of how what we eat affects how we think, feel, act and behave.
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the role the gut biome plays in wellness.2. Describe food-sensitive demographics and its impact on behavioral health.3. Identify strategies that may be used to integrate nutritional wellness as a part of comprehensive care for youth.
Who should attend:
Licensed psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and clinical social workers who want to increase their knowledge of the mind-body connection and the relationship between nutrition and stress. Unlicensed mental health professionals and trainees are also welcome to attend though program content will be at the intermediate postdoctoral/post-licensure level.
