I have been involved with Clearwater for almost 30 years. It had a profound effect on me as a teenager and has been a major influence in my life ever since. Each Year 10,000 students come on board to learn a unique message of environmentalism, history and social justice. I’d like to think it effects some of them as strongly as it did 13-year-old me.
 
From its humble roots in the 60s Clearwater grew to become a powerful symbol for clean water. Today it’s a national historic landmark, the Flagship of America’s Environmental Movement. Our outdoor education program has become a model for hundreds of others from the Yangtze to the Black Sea while never wavering from our guiding mission to keep the Hudson river clean for future generations.
 
When I was a kid the river was gross. It smelled funny, people tossed garbage in it but otherwise stayed away. Today we have a river that is swimmable, teeming with wildlife and a source of joy to thriving communities from top to bottom.

In the last two years we finished a massive restoration project to keep the sloop sailing for years to come. The pandemic created unique challenges for an organization that revolves around bringing people together, but with your support we made it through, and evolved to thrive in a new normal. 

Still, the fight to protect our environment, locally and globally, goes on. Climate Change is a fact of life, not a specter on the horizon but a clear and present danger. Clearwater is on the front lines of that fight, protecting our water and crucially, educating, activating and inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders.
