MEDA (Multi-Service Eating Disorders Association) is honored to have Erin Schwartz run the 2024 Boston Marathon for MEDA again this year. All proceeds raised by Erin's run will be donated to MEDA and will support services for those struggling with eating disorders and provide critical programs to increase access to treatment and services.
FROM ERIN: It is an honor to run for MEDA at the 2024 Boston Marathon. This year's efforts are not only a celebration of my recovery journey, but a means to spread awareness that every body deserves the resources to be proud of the body they live in. My eating disorder defined me throughout high school and college, impacting my quality of life. I felt alone, in a world where I had no choice but to be hyper controlling over my weight. Running became a coping mechanism, an added stresser to my eating disorder. Once I became a collegiate runner, it became a vicious cycle, I knew the smaller I was the faster I would run, and the more I ran the more calories were burned. In 2021, I finally got the resources I needed and proudly am recovered.
Running today is now defined differently. It is an opportunity to celebrate the way our bodies can move and accomplish what otherwise seems impossible. It is a means to celebrate our able bodies, not punish them. I believe EVERYONE deserves resources to find full recovery.
Running for MEDA allows me to celebrate my own journey and fundraise to provide the necessary resources, empowering others through MEDA's mission.
