Make a Gift to Protect North Carolina's Marine Resources
North Carolina's valuable marine resources are at risk due to decades of mismanagement and overfishing. Trawling and other activity are threatening the state's estuaries, where young fish remain until they are mature enough to spawn and move to deeper waters. As time passed with fewer fish making it to maturity, populations steeply declined. The declines have reached a critical point. It's not too late to turn the tide, but immediate action must be taken now to address overfishing and trawling in estuaries that kills millions of fish each year before they have had the chance to spawn even once.
NCWF’s vision is the sustainable management of North Carolina's marine resources. This will require an end to overfishing, reducing wasteful by-catch (especially from trawling and gill nets), and protecting juvenile nurseries in our estuarine waters. This stewardship of North Carolina’s natural resources is needed to rebuild a sustainable harvest that benefits the ecosystem, coastal economies, sustainable commercial fishing operations, and the public fishing sector. Putting the resource first must be the management focus moving forward. You can make a gift to support the marine fisheries management reforms.
Your partnership and investment is key to saving North Carolina fisheries and preventing further destruction of estuary habitat. Please use this form to make a contribution today and help us keep the momentum going!
