The compelling story of the famed “Buffalo Soldiers” at Fort Bliss: their exploits, their heroism, and their vital role in civilizing the most dangerous territories of the great American Southwest.

This book relates the lesser known history of the African American troops during the Spanish American War, on the Pershing Expedition into Mexico in pursuit of Pancho Villa, and through the early Twentieth Century.

In 1999 a group of loyal and dedicated volunteers took on the daunting task of erecting a monument to honor the generations of Buffalo Soldiers and African American soldiers who served at this historic post. This is the story behind the monument as well as the story of the unique significance of the monument location to the African American history at Fort Bliss.

Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Army Scholarship Foundation.
