Continuing Education Credit Courses for Social Workers

The Safe Center is proud to provide workshops with social work CEUs to area professionals. We will be offering a variety of trainings based on the latest research in the areas of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and the effects of trauma on individuals and families. We update our calendar throughout the year, so check back regularly to see if new trainings have been added.

The Safe Center is recognized by New York State Education Department State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers.

Requests can be made to provide trainings onsite at your organization for groups of 10 or more. Email for more info.

Racism, Privilge and Oppression (9:00am - 4:00pm, Lunch on your own 12:00pm - 1:00pm)
We will establish a foundational understanding of racism, privilege and oppression, and present an understanding of the experience of oppressed persons in our community and how to construct a culturally relevant practice. Special attention will be paid to the experience of oppressed persons in the mental health, criminal justice and educational systems.
This course is co-presented by Schanica Pickens of Adelphi University School of Social Work and Anthony Zenkus of The Safe Center.

A Strengths-Based Approach to Working With Adolescents (Training 9am-4:00pm, Lunch On Your Own 12:00pm-1:00pm)
We will focus on incorporating a strengths-based approach to working with adolescents, to invite the whole person and not only the broken, troubled and hurt parts. We will address how this strengths-based approach can help us move beyond the medical model better incorporate the impact of the social environment in our work with teens. Special attention will be paid to how the mental health and educational systems can improve in the way they work with adolescents.
This workshop is presented by Anthony Zenkus, LMSW, Director of Education at The Safe Center. Anthony has over 25 years experience in working with youth, families and communities and specializes in the impact of trauma and abuse on individuals and groups.

Human Sex Trafficking
We will explore the prevalence, dynamics, and definitions of human trafficking and look at how it impacts us regionally and nationally. Participants will learn how to better identify potential trafficking victims and how to refer them to specialized services.
