Friends of the Chicago River’s work spans the entire 156-mile 
Chicago River system and its surrounding watershed. 

We envision a fishable and swimmable Chicago River system 
that is one of the world’s greatest metropolitan rivers. 

Our goals are improving water quality, influencing land use, 
protecting and creating wildlife habitat, increasing public participation, 
and establishing a blue-green corridor of natural open space.
